Google Dinosaur Game Hacks: Console Codes Explained
Because Chrome's dinosaur runner is plain JavaScript running in your own browser, you can open the developer console and rewrite its rules — no downloads, no extensions, nothing shady. These are the classic "dinosaur game hacks". They're great fun and they ruin your scores; both facts matter.
Open the game and the console
- In Chrome, go to chrome://dino and start the run.
- Press F12 (or Ctrl+Shift+I / Cmd+Option+I) and click the Console tab.
The classic commands
Invincibility — replace the game-over routine with nothing:
var original = Runner.prototype.gameOver;
Runner.prototype.gameOver = function(){};
Restore crashes later with Runner.prototype.gameOver = original;
Speed control — set any running speed (default ~6, cap 13):
Runner.instance_.setSpeed(50);
Moon gravity — floatier jumps:
Runner.instance_.tRex.config.GRAVITY = 0.25;
Monster jumps — raise jump velocity:
Runner.instance_.tRex.setJumpVelocity(20);
What these hacks actually do
They edit the live game object (Runner.instance_) in memory. Nothing is installed and nothing persists — reload the page and the game is back to normal. They only work on Chrome's own runner, because they depend on its internal variable names.
The catch
A score earned at setSpeed(200) with crashes disabled means nothing — which is why record talk always excludes console play (see the world record post). Think of hacks as a physics sandbox: discover that gravity 0.1 turns the desert into the moon, laugh, reload, then go earn a real score. Our online dinosaur game keeps its rules intact — the fair-play way to a "HI" number you own — and these strategies are the legitimate speed hack.
