Google Dinosaur 3D: View Dinosaurs in AR and Play in 3D
"Google dinosaur 3D" means two different treats: an augmented-reality feature that puts a life-size T-Rex in your living room, and the broader wish to play the dino game with 3D depth. Here's how to get both.
View a dinosaur in 3D from Google Search
On a phone, search Google for a dinosaur name — Tyrannosaurus Rex is the star. In the results you'll see a "View in 3D" panel: tap it and a detailed, animated dinosaur appears; tap "View in your space" and your camera places it in AR at true scale, sound effects included.
The dinosaurs you can summon
Google teamed up with the Jurassic World team in 2020 to add ten species:
- Tyrannosaurus Rex
- Velociraptor
- Triceratops
- Spinosaurus
- Stegosaurus
- Brachiosaurus
- Ankylosaurus
- Dilophosaurus
- Pteranodon
- Parasaurolophus
Tips: good lighting helps the AR tracking, "true scale" mode shows how absurdly big a Brachiosaurus is, and you can record video clips with the dinosaur in frame.
Requirements
You need a reasonably recent phone — Android with ARCore support or an iPhone — and the regular Google app or mobile browser. No separate app is needed. On desktop you'll see a 3D model viewer instead of AR.
Want to play in 3D, not just look?
The AR feature is a museum, not a game. For gameplay with depth, we built Dino 3D Run — a three-lane runner where obstacles rush toward the camera and you dodge by switching lanes and jumping. It's the closest thing to the classic Google dinosaur game in 3D, free in your browser. For the rest of the family — night mode, flying, egg-catching — browse all our dinosaur games.
